The USDA Certified Organic sticker used to also mean that the seeds from the plants that produced the product were non-GMO (not a genetically modified organism).  The current meaning of USDA Certified Organic carries no information about the classification of the seeds (as to whether they are or are not GMO).

More of the burden of researching the safety of our food supply is being placed on the shoulders of the consumers.

In the last several years, Apple Cottage has experienced major changes in the area of food labeling.  Information about the country of origin (the original producer of the food) is no longer obvious as it has been in the past.  An item with a Product of Canada label on it actually originates in China and arrives in the country of destination by way of Canada.  The consumer has no way to know that a product that appears to be supplied from Canada has actually been produced in China.
